Deborah Ann Butler, a distinguished tax attorney and lifelong public servant, passed away on April 22nd in The Woodlands, Texas, where she had made her home following a remarkable 36-year career in federal service. Her accomplishments earned her the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive in 2004, and in 2016, the Federal Bar Association honored her post-retirement with the Kenneth H. Liles Award for Distinguished Service.
In retirement, Deborah turned her dedication toward community service. She was a past president of the SMCFOL and chair of the Book Sale Committee for several years. She was a tremendous asset for our organization and the community. We will miss her wise advice and her friendship.
Any donations collected in her name will go to the county book fund to purchase materials for the libraries. There will also be a plaque put up in her honor at the Mitchell Library. Donations must be made by cash or check, and may be mailed to our PO Box or dropped off at either bookshop.
